Description:
API Equality – Northern California is seeking a full-time Community Organizer to lead and expand the reach of APIENC’s leadership development and visibility work.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to recruit, support, and motivate teams of volunteers to work on a variety of projects, from organizing transcribing days for our Dragon Fruit Project, to putting together an API contingent for the annual TransMarch, to coordinating a grassroots fundraising campaign. They are committed to values-driven organizing, collaboration, and experimentation. This person will bring a can-do attitude, critical thinking skills, and a commitment to growth and learning. This position is an opportunity to engage with activists, academics, students, and LGBTQ and/or API folks from diverse backgrounds.

About API Equality – Northern California
APIENC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to build LGBTQ API power by amplifying our voices and increasing visibility of our communities. We inspire and train leaders, establish intergenerational connections, and document and disseminate our histories. We work closely with other LGBTQ and/or API groups in the Bay Area to build resources, develop LGBTQ API leaders, and explore and uplift LGBTQ API history.  We are also part of Asian Americans for Civil Rights and Equality (AACRE), a network of progressive social justice groups.

Job Responsibilities
The Community Organizer’s primary responsibility is to work with APIENC’s leadership team, partners, and volunteers to develop, implement, and evaluate educational, outreach, and leadership development efforts. These efforts increase the capacity of API organizations and individuals to be effective advocates for LGBTQ issues.The Community Organizer will also work to bring greater understanding and awareness of API communities, cultures, and interests to the LGBTQ movement.

Specifically, the Community Organizer will:

  • Coordinate leadership development programs and visibility & outreach initiatives with support from the Executive Director and volunteer leaders

  • Recruit, train, motivate, and manage volunteers to organize events, trainings, and orientations

  • Work with the Fundraising Committee to execute grassroots fundraising campaigns and major donor efforts

  • Work with the Communications Committee to create and implement communications strategy

  • Build and manage relationships with API and/or LGBTQ partner organizations

  • Develop trainings, curriculum, and other teaching tools

  • Supervise interns

  • Represent API Equality – Northern California at community events and in coalitions.

Qualifications:
We are seeking someone who is highly organized, resourceful, and self-motivated, excels at relationship building, and thrives in a small team environment.

  • 1-2 years relevant work experience

  • Demonstrated track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with volunteers and community members, and community partners

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and teams.

Experience in organizing around social justice issues and oral fluency and written proficiency in an API language are plusses but not requirements.
