Our Families Matter

Updates

  • August 2013 – API Equality – Northern California intern Sammie invites you to an LGBTQ Immigration Panel.
  • July 2013 – ASPIRE Leader May Liang reflects on outreach event.

This summer, we’ve partnered with ASPIRE (Asian Students Promoting Immigrant Rights through Education) to work on the Our Families Matter campaign, a campaign originally started to stop the deportations of two ASPIRE members. Now, the Our Families Matter campaign has expanded to include messages about immigration reform. We hope to bring awareness of the injustice that remain in the proposals for the bills and push for a more just reform that is inclusive to all immigrants no matter their status. We lead outreach events to gather postcards, have conversations, and educate the public on what fair and humane immigration reform entails.

Interested in joining the Our Families Matter campaign? Come help us fight for fair and humane reform! We have a 2-3 events per month, and we also attend actions to show support for other community partners. We’re looking for anyone who cares about immigration reform and the raising the experiences of LGBTQ Asian Pacific Islanders. Training is given before each outreach event, so you don’t need to know how to do outreach or talk about immigration reform beforehand! Email swills@apiequalitync.org for more information or to sign up.
